We also have articles about traveling with and taking care of your Best Friend.

You may want to start with a list of our Care and Diagnosis Articles, and then look over our Services Page. Take a little time to look over our Partial list of Poisonous Substances!

Dr Hayes has completed the study of stem cell treatments and is now able to offer this service to our patients!
She has also written a new handout about the advances in
Stem cell treatment for dogs and cats!

Those Simple JigSaw Puzzles that we made from some puppy and kitten pictures are still available for you to let your youngsters spend some computer time playing while you're busy cleaning sidewalks and drives! They can be downloaded to a file on your desktop and opened whenever you want without your youngster being online.

Certification LogoDr Hayes has recently completed the certification for canine rehabilitation. The process takes several weeks of classes over a 12 month period and an internship with a certified practicing rehabilitation therapist. Canine Rehabilitation Institute offers the courses to veterinarians and physical therapists.

Because pets of all types and sizes can benefit from rehabilitation and conditioning programs, Whitney Veterinary Hospital is pleased to announce the addition of these services to our practice. Rehabilitation services include exercise protocols, in-patient treatment, post-operative recovery plans, weight management, conditioning programs, laser therapy and TENS.

Please call the office at 309-685-4707 to set up a consultation. We look forward to helping your dog get fit and more active!

So, you think spring is here. Try going out and setting a spell - about 10 minutes with a light jacket - with your outdoor dog. Around 9:00 P.M.! The daytime temperatures are currently above normal; but, it's still dipping into the 30's and 40's at night. You still need to fix up a snug space for your outdoor pets! Take advantage of these above normal days to check their bedding and water situation. Please read our handout about
Caring for your pet in the Winter!

Peoria is going through a bit of a, (dare I say the word?) low rainfall period right now. Lot's of nice daytime temps. Perfect for throwing a ball or a frisbee for your pup. Also, for taking your your older dog for a leisurely walk! And - if you aren't walking them, why not? They Love it! And, it's good for you too! Just don't let them overdo it and get themselves sore! Dr. Hayes can give you a few exercises that you can guide your arthritic dog or cat through to help them warm up to summer. You'll both enjoy being outside in the sunshine. It really lifts the stress of the day from your shoulders.

Don't forget to get your Senior Pet Blood Panels and the Heartworm test taken care of. We also have a related article about What the Blood test means. After you read those, you may want to read about Senior Pet Care.

Please don't forget to donate to Critter Meals On Wheels! Our generous clients have been donating to this food drive for a few years; but, they still need your help. The pets that would otherwise go to bed hungry thank you for your generous donations.

Happy Easter and Hannakah!
Happy Easter and Hannakah!

Here come the young fleas and ticks! They've hatched and are Hungry! Be sure to pick up some tick and flea prevention at your veterinarian's office! Ticks carry lymes disease, and fleas carry tapeworm! You do not want your pet to become a victim of Lymes.

Our Doctors recommend giving heartworm tablets all year for prevention of heartworm and other parasites. (Just check out the list of parasites in the column to the left. That'll get your attention!)

If you didn't continue your heartworm pills and flea-prevention through the winter, contact your veterinarian to get tested and get started again! Fleas carry tapeworm and other parasites and they try to ride along when your pets come inside. You don't want them to ride in and set up housekeeping in Your home!

Feeling a bit "pinched" by tax season? We have a nice selection of Pet Treat Recipes that you can bake up for your pets.

As pets get older, they are less able to cope with the changing temperatures and the stresses of hard play! If you're not sure how your pet is doing, the following articles may help:
