We also have articles about traveling with and taking care of your Best Friend.

You may want to start with a list of our Care and Diagnosis Articles, and then look over our Services Page. The holidays may be over, but don't forget that our little four-legged friends don't know that they can't eat the Poinsettia, play with the snow globe, etc. Take a little time to look over our Partial list of Poisonous Substances!

Now that Valentine's Day is over, it's time to move on to February 20 - Love Your Pet Day.

kittens have dreams tooLove Your Pet Day can be celebrated in any manner that will make your pet happy. Play with them, take them for a walk or a run at the dog park. Give them a new toy. Get a feather and tickle the cat. (When was the last time that you actually played with the cat?)

Take your dog for a walk!Roll up a ball of paper and throw it for the cat. Give the pup an empty paper towel roll. Sure they might tear it up, but it won't hurt them. Take the dog or cat for a walk. It's good for both of you. Spend some time talking to them. They'll listen, even though your wife/husband/kids won't.

Spend some time grooming and massaging them. Rub their shoulders slowly in a clockwise motion to make them feel soooo good! They love a good massage as much as we do. And, most pets love to strut around when they're freshly brushed and clean. Wash their bedding and make sure their vaccinations are current. Consider whether your senior pet needs a glucosamine supplement for their joints.

How about a new collar and a ride in the car? Maybe a bandana made from a triangular scrap of bright fabric, or a new jacket? This is the day for new toys & maybe a new treat. One of those "doggie ice creams" or "doggie cookies". Some folks celebrate Love Your Pet Day with a trip to the shelter to adopt an animal that needs a home. What better gift could you give a dog or cat than a home?

Our pets help us to cope with depression, help to lower our blood pressure, provide us with hours of entertainment and companionship and, sometimes, save our lives. They guard the house and are the first to greet us when we arrive home. Isn't it time for us to give one day back to them by celebrating the bond and friendship that we share?

Our Doctors recommend giving heartworm tablets all year for prevention of heartworm and other parasites.
Also, don't discontinue your flea-prevention. Fleas carry tapeworm and other parasites and they try to ride along when your pets come inside; I found a flea on the floor of the laundry room the other day. (Little buggers jump & scurry away really fast when you're trying to smash them!) They could be waiting for your little "walking lunch" to come along. Look over our Handouts on Summer Care that includes flea prevention.

We still maintain our food drive for Critter Meals On Wheels! Our past response from our generous clients to this food drive has been overwhelming. The pets that would otherwise go to bed hungry thank you for your generous donations.

Although it's mid February, there's plenty of cold weather left! Be sure to check the bedding of any pets that sleep outside at night. A wet bed will keep your pet from being warm at night. Straw is very inexpensive & can be easily replaced. Be sure that any automatic watering systems are still functioning and providing drinking water. We have a handout about Caring for your pets in winter! Also, if you let your pets ride along to the store, remember to take cold weather gear for them - as well as yourself - in case of car trouble. (Of course you always have a leash -- right?)

This is the time of year when arthritic joints ache the most! Perhaps you and your veterinarian need to discuss adding a glucosamine supplement to your pet's daily diet? Take a look at our handout about Arthritis. It's a very painful condition for humans and for pets!

This is a good time to get your Senior Pet Blood Panels taken care of. We also have a related article about What the Blood test means. After you read those, you may want to read about Senior Pet Care.Winter is hard on those oldsters!

Our pets really, really love this dog treat recipe.

Have you tried any of our puzzles yet? They're intended for the younger set, but it's kinda nice to find a simple jigsaw puzzle that goes together quickly. We made some easy JigSaw Puzzles out of some of the puppy and kitten pictures. (Perhaps your new pet is one of them?) Or - Let them try one of our Crossword Puzzles. They're based on our handouts, so they can look the answers up if they get stumped.

As pets get older, they are less able to cope with the changing temperatures and the stresses of hard play! If you're not sure how your pet is doing, the following articles may help:
